What we keep on the BePuzzled shelves

BePuzzled has been casting 3D crystal puzzles for long enough that the shape of the pieces has become its own language. There is no picture to copy and no flat edge to start from: you learn to read a bevel, hold two pieces up to the window, and let the designs tell you which way is up. That is the whole appeal, and it is why we sort our collections by line rather than by theme.

The Original line is the entry point. Forty-odd pieces of clear or tinted resin, one numbered sheet folded into the box, and an animal or object that stands about the height of a coffee cup when you finish. Color matters more than people expect. A clear build hides its joints and rewards patience; a saturated color shows every facet and makes the last five pieces obvious. Many of us keep both versions of the same mold on the shelf for exactly that reason.

Deluxe and Ultra-Deluxe raise the piece count to between fifty-six and a hundred and five. The extra pieces do not simply make the build longer, they make it less forgiving: a dragon wing assembled in the wrong order has to come apart to the shoulder. Licensed designs sit between the two, carrying Disney, Marvel, Peanuts and Legend of Zelda characters in whatever color the character is remembered in. Those designs are the ones people collect hardest, because a second Stitch in a different color reads as a different object on the same shelf.

Cast metal is the other half of the house. Hanayama brain teasers arrive graded from level 1 to level 6, and the grade is honest. Nothing here needs force; every solution is a rotation that lines up two gaps you cannot see at once. A level 2 teaches you the vocabulary in ten minutes. A level 6 can sit on a desk for a month, which is the point of buying one.

Puzzles like these earn their keep twice. They ask for real skill while you build, holding attention and fine motor control in a way a screen never manages, and then they stop being a puzzle and start being an object on a shelf. The motor side of it is not a marketing line: the pieces are small, the order matters, and the skill you pick up on one build transfers straight to the next.

The shelves are arranged so that you can navigate by difficulty rather than by theme. Start where the designs look easiest to you, move sideways when a build stops resisting, and use the level and piece counts on every card to navigate up. Within a shelf the designs are ordered by level and then by size, so the first row is always the gentlest. Accessibility matters to us in both senses of the word. We say plainly which builds are accessible to a first attempt and which are not, and the pages themselves are written to stay accessible without a mouse — the web rules page sets out what we hold ourselves to on accessibility and what to write to us about if a page fails you.

So cute!

This is so cute! I purchased as a gift to someone who loves doing puzzles. I can hardly wait to see it finished. I can see where these could become something you would want to collect. So many choices from this company and a great price

Looks great

Not extremely difficult yet still challenging and by all means very attractive, looks good sitting on the coffee table. Hanayama makes good puzzles that are guaranteed to last several lifetimes, I know these will be around for my grandchildren.

Love it!

She is so beautiful!! I LOVE her! Super easy to assemble and so much fun! Her cloak was a little warped from the way it was in the box, but that's a factory issue. She still looks wonderful and is a perfect addition to my collection 🥰

Orange crystal dragon

I am collecting these dragons for my son. He loves dragons and loves putting things together. This will be his third one. He has a red and blue right now. This is a very good gift. I hope to also get green and purple sometime.

Fun

The concept is cool. Not having a pic to go by was strange but fun. Very interesting. However, it wasnt clear what we were solving so we were off track. We read the solution but still have lots of questions.

What a workout on my eyes

I didn't realize how small the pieces would actually be and the instructions weren't easy to follow. There were no words; just images with how it should look. It did not take you step by step on which piece is needed. Had a few extra pieces so I wasn't sure if I did it right or not. It is cute once the wine glasses are completed.

Questions we get about BePuzzled puzzles

8 answers
What is a mystery jigsaw puzzle?

It is a jigsaw sold with a short crime story. The image on the box is deliberately wrong, the picture you build holds the clue the story withheld, and the sealed solution sheet in the box is the only place the answer appears.

What are BePuzzled 3D crystal puzzles made of?

Molded acrylic resin, cast clear or tinted. The pieces are solid rather than hollow, which is why a finished build has real weight and throws color when you stand it in a window.

Is a 3D crystal puzzle good for kids?

The boxes say ages 12 and up, and we would hold to that for the Original line and above. Pieces are small, the order matters, and an eight-year-old usually meets frustration before the halfway point. Pixel puzzles are the shelf to start on instead.

How long does a crystal puzzle take to complete?

A forty-piece Original build takes most people forty minutes to an hour on the first attempt and about half that on the second. Deluxe models of eighty pieces or more run to an evening.

What do the Hanayama levels mean?

Hanayama grades each cast metal brain teaser from 1 to 6 by how long it takes an experienced solver. Level 1 and 2 come apart in minutes, level 4 is a long evening, and level 6 is measured in weeks.

Where do I find the instruction sheet if I lost it?

Every crystal puzzle ships with a numbered diagram folded under the tray. If yours went out with the packaging, write to us with the model name and we will send the numbering back to you.

Can I take a crystal puzzle apart again?

Yes, and most people do once. The pieces separate with thumb pressure at the base. The second build is always faster, which is a slightly deflating discovery.

Are the pieces glued?

No. Friction holds a crystal build together and the base ring locks the bottom layer. Glue makes the model impossible to repair and we would not use it.
